What is SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING?

SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING: a definition

Social Media [adverb] Marketing [verb]

Verb: a word used to describe an action, state, or occurrence, and forming the main part of the predicate of a sentence.

Adverb: a word or phrase that modifies the meaning of a verb.

Therefore, in the term social media marketing the key word, the most important word - the word that the term is really about is ... marketing.

Social media - the modifier - identifies a type or aspect of marketing.

For some time I have used the term marketing on social media. It makes more sense and explains better what's being talked about.

An addendum to this relates to my rants about
non-marketers in digital marketing. Marketing on social media is marketing. Therefore to be effective working in, or teaching, marketing on social media, the worker or teacher must have at least one recognised marketing qualification.
